It's Called a Bubbler, Don'tcha Know?

My favorite thing about meeting new people in NYC is that they always ask me where I'm from. At first, they'll ponder my "accent" for a little bit..turning their head sideways with absolute confusion. When I proudly announce that I'm from Wiis-cooon-zin they always light up with an "Ah-ha, the Cheese State!" followed with an array of questions about the Packers, Brett Favre and Cow Tipping.

Not only does Wisconsin have a beautiful landscape and changing seasons, but it also offers some of the best schools and the friendliest people you will ever meet. This is a place where people actually care about each other. There is a great sense of pride and spirit when it comes to Wisconsin sports. In Madison, EVERYONE goes out on Badger game day. If you are a fellow Badger Fan you are welcome to drink a beer on any porch near Camp Randall, same thing goes with Packer Fans in Green Bay and Brewer Fans in Milwaukee.

No one can appreciate Wisconsin like people who've grown up there. I may be a bit biased, but Wisconsin has to be one of the most fantastic places to grow up. Recently Madison, WI was named "One of the Brainiest Cities in the United States" and also "One of the Top 10 American Cities to Raise Your Family." So it's obvious that others recognize the great things about Wisconsin too. So even if I get made fun of for asking where the bubbler is, telling people to turn right at the stop-and-go lights or for asking if they have cheese curds on the menu, I will always be true to where I'm from. I LOVE WISCONSIN!

You Can Be CRUNCHY Too!

Taking a a shower at Olympic speeds? I deserve a gold medal. Show me a tree and I'll hug it. My arch enemy is electricity and my best friend is a reusable shopping bag. Get in my belly organic food and off my plate animal products.

There's nothing wrong with being a little crunchy, in fact it's AWESOME. It not only shows that you care about yourself, but also the environment and generations to come. Be proud of yourself!

Every Day Adventures

Every day we have the opportunity to make life a little bit more exciting and a little less mundane. This is one opportunity that I make sure to take advantage of, and so should you! It's so easy to get stuck into a routine and look back to see you've done the same thing for the last month, maybe even year. Don't get me wrong, I like routine too, it's comfy and cozy like a favorite pair of pj's, but sometimes you just have to mix it up a little.

So how can you add adventure to your every day life? Simple.
  • Sing in the shower, I mean REALLY SING like you're trying out for American Idol, the acoustics are great anyway, so go for it!
  • Rearrange your office or home so you love it, add some FUN new decor!
  • Take the path less traveled, walk or drive a different way to work, try going backwards
  • Eat somewhere you've NEVER been, order something you've NEVER tried
  • Check out Meetup.com and make some new friends at Happy Hour
  • Make up your newest dance move and try it out in public
  • Call your friends and talk in your best foreign accent
  • Change your voicemail greeting
  • And my personal favorite, browsing Craigslist, apply for random some gigs, you never know who/what's out there! (London's Craigslist moved me from WI to NYC and NYC's Craigslist took me to the Golden Globes last year. Trust me, you just really never know!!)

What's Fueling Fame these Days?

I haven't had cable or television for the past year and it's obvious I've missed something...

I mean are we serious, Snooki is a really celebrity? What's up with that!? When did being ubiquitous replace having beauty, talent or wealth? Maybe this happened a long time ago and I've just been too busy paying attention to more important things like the economy, real estate and stock prices.

Maybe I'm just growing up.

I guess it's goodbye days of Princess Diana and hello days of binge-drinking, bed-hopping reality-tv show stars.

Travel Bug Pick Me Up

I have the travel bug and tend to get a little stir crazy when I'm stuck in one place for too long. During in between times, I've discovered a few ways to temporarily keep my travel bug in check. If you're like me and also need to get your travel fix, I suggest the following:

Newsaholic Anonymous

Hi I'm Angela and I'm a Newsaholic.

Today when I woke up I visited the websites for Business Insider, Business Week, NY Times, Venture Beat, Tech-Crunch, BBC and Crains New York. Next I proceeded to my Facebook Newsfeed and Twitter account, checking and double checking for any major headlines. Then it was off to work with my most recent copy of Bloomberg Businessweek tucked securely in my purse for further reading. I have 5 iPhone news apps that I monitor regularly, business magazines sprawled all over my floor and have found myself a news reporter roommate.

They say the first step to recovery is acknowledgment so here I am.

Bringing Order to Chaos

Do you have a gazillion things to do in a day along with constant information overload? I highly recommend you adopt The Art of List Making.

It's like spring cleaning for your brain.

Lists can...

1. Help you remember things
2. Keep you from procrastinating
3. Keep you focused
4. Make you feel organized
5. Be long or short
6. Help you prioritize
7. Bring order to chaos

To Date or Not to Date...

Now that I'm an experienced AND retired (Thank God!) user of online dating sites, my friends have been dying for me to share my expert advice. It wasn't fun and it definitely wasn't pretty, but hey! somebody had to do it, so I took one for the team.

I've concluded the following results:
  • If his profile says he's 5'9, it's likely he's 5'5...maybe even 5'4.
  • Beware...if he's not showing his teeth when he smiles in his pictures he probably has braces, or funky teeth. No bueno.
  • Dismiss any guys with pictures of themselves with no shirt, this is clearly a sign of needing attention.
  • With that said, also dismiss any guys taking a picture of themselves in a mirror with their camera.
  • The length of his profile relates directly to the amount of mental issues he has.
  • If he sendz u a messag dat luks lik dis i wud strongly suggest the ignoring tactic.
  • Make sure to find out if he's married. I know this seems silly but trust me, it's necessary.
Happy hunting ladies! I hope you don't end up meeting someone like this...

but rather someone more like this...

Connecting--the--Dots

Remember those silly connect the dot pictures when you were little? Yeah, life's kind of like that. Each dot representing an action, person or encounter in your life. Although each dot may not seem entirely important at it's given moment, don't let it fool you. It's not until later when you've connected a few more that you see how they come together to form a bigger picture.
